Brazil's Nubank first non-Asian digital bank to hit 100 million customers

Brazilian digital bank Nubank NU has exceeded 100 million customers in Latin America, making it the first digital banking platform outside Asia to do so, it said in a statement on Wednesday.

Nubank operates in Brazil, where it serves more than 92 million clients, as well as Mexico and Colombia, where its customers total 7 million and nearly 1 million, respectively.

Last year it reported record financial results, amassing more than $8 billion in revenues and $1 billion in net profit.

"In 2013 we set the ambitious goal of reaching one million customers in five years, which seemed almost impossible at the time," Chief Executive David Velez said in a statement.

"Within a decade, we have now surpassed the 100 million mark - that is a testament to the trust our customers place in us."

Nubank is set to publish its first-quarter results on May 14.
