Growth indicators in the Stock Screener

Jan 12, 2023

Our Stock Screener now has a new group of indicators – “Growth indicators”, which includes Annual YoY Growth, TTM YoY Growth and Quarterly QoQ Growth for popular fundamental indicators such as Revenue, EBITDA, FCF, Dividends per share etc.

How can you use it?

The “Dividend per Share Growth” measures the YoY growth of dividend payments by the company. Dividend growth is a good indicator of the financial health of a company. Companies that are able to sustain and grow dividend payments over time are considered likely to be financially stable.

Growing free cash flows are frequently a prelude to increased earnings. Companies that experience growth of the FCF today — due to revenue growth, efficiency improvements, cost reductions, share buybacks or other factors — can reward investors tomorrow. By contrast, declining FCF can be an indicator of future problems, such as difficulties with sustaining earnings growth or boosting a firm’s debt levels.

The “EBITDA growth” filter is a measure of a company’s operating performance. It eliminates the effects of financing and accounting decisions. Growth in EBITDA signifies an improvement in the efficiency of a company. If there is growth in EBITDA, it will enhance the EPS of a company thereby shooting the market price of a stock upwards with high probability.

Let’s see what periods are available for comparison:

  1. Quarterly QoQ Growth represents the revenue change of successive quarterly periods, i.e. the latest reported quarter compared to the last but one.
  2. Quarterly YoY Growth represents the revenue change of the latest quarter of current year compared to the same quarter of previous year.
  3. Annual YoY Growth represents the revenue change of the latest reported fiscal year compared to previous fiscal year.
  4. TTM YoY Growth represents the revenue change of the latest 12 months (4 quarters) ended by the latest fiscal quarter compared to 12 months ended the same quarter of previous year.

Companies mostly calculate growth indicators in the format of QoQ and YoY subsequent growth, but for the companies that have revenue affected by seasonality, it makes sense to apply the growth indicator for the same period of the previous year (i.e. Quarterly YoY Growth).
