How to SPOT a TRENDTrend trading strategies are very valuable as a trader. The term the trend is your friend is fitting when trading stocks. Knowing how to identify the trend is very important because it gives important clues for entries and exits when trading.
"Whatever method you use to enter trades, the most critical thing is that if there is a major trend, your approach should assure that you get in that trend."
-Richard Dennis.
“Fundamentals that you read about are typically useless as the market has already discounted the price, and I call them “funny-mentals”. I am primarily a trend trader with touches of hunches based on about twenty years of experience. In order of importance to me are: (1) the long-term trend, (2) the current chart pattern, and (3) picking a good spot to buy or sell. Those are the three primary components of my trading. Way down in a very distant fourth place are my fundamental ideas and, quite likely, on balance, they have cost me money.” – Ed Seykota
“I’ve learned many things from him , but perhaps the most significant is that it’s not whether you’re right or wrong that’s important, but how much money you make when you’re right and how much you lose when you’re wrong.” – Stanley Druckenmiller
“I just wait until there is money lying in the corner, and all I have to do is go over there and pick it up. I do nothing in the meantime. Even people who lose money in the market say, “I just lost my money, now I have to do something to make it back.” No, you don’t. You should sit there until you find something.” – Jim Rogers
“Play the market only when all factors are in your favor. No person can play the market all the time and win. There are times when you should be completely out of the market, for emotional as well as economic reasons.” – Jesse Livermore
“Whenever I enter a position, I have a predetermined stop. That is the only way I can sleep. I know where I’m getting out before I get in. The position size on a trade is determined by the stop, and the stop is determined on a technical basis.” – Bruce Kovner
"Amateurs think about how much money they can make. Professionals think about how much money they could lose."
–Jack Schwager.
"The price of a commodity will never go to zero. When you invest in commodities futures, you are not buying a piece of paper that says you own an intangible of the company that can go bankrupt."
–Jim Rogers.
"It's not always easy to do what's not popular, but that's where you make your money. Buy stocks that look bad to less careful investors and hang on until their real value is recognized."
-John Neff.
"We don't care about 'why'. Real traders only have the time and interest to care about 'what' and 'when' and 'if' and 'then'. 'Why' is for pretenders."
-JC Parets.
"You only have to do very few things right in your life so long as you don't do too many things wrong."
-Warren Buffett.
"The goal of a successful trader is to make the best trades. Money is secondary."
-Alexander Elder.
"Do not anticipate and move without market confirmation—being a little late in your trade is your insurance that you are right or wrong."

Technical Basics: QCOM Possible Upside Move? Those looking for a simple technical analysis (TA) could revisit the use of trendline. Its one of the most basic tools. As depicted in the QCOM chart, one could find the potential move of QCOM. Trendline 1 could tell the reader its a confirmed uptrend with at least 3 point of touches by the trendline. Trendline 2 is also a confirmed uptrend with the same 3 point of touches. Trendline 3 is a unconfirmed uptrend and could be a weak one as it only have the minimum 2 point of touches by the trendline. The angle of ascend of each trendline may also tell us the sustainability of the trendline. A more upsloping (near vertical formation) would not sustained the upward move. The ideal upsloping or upward trendline angle would be around the 40 degree angle.
The use of trendline not just restrictive to price action, but it also can be used to determine Volume trend. As depicted on QCOM chart, the volume is drying up by the down sloping of the trendline. A break of the down sloping trendline could potentially pushing up the price of QCOM further high.
Beside using trendline to determine the next up or down trend move of a particular instruments, trendline could also be used as a dynamic support and resistance line. As an example depicted by QCOM chart, Trendline 3 currently supporting the upward move of QCOM price action, but if it fails the next dynamic support could be Trendline 2 and Trendline 1. A price action falls below Trendline 1 could signal a change in trend from Bullish to Bearish.
One need to update his/her trendline from time to time in order to accounts for the latest price action move.
Happy trading guys.
Pullback Expected | Long SetupAfter successfully breaking out of our descending trendline, we will now be looking to potentially retest it. Currently, the market is trending within a respectable parallel channel. A zone of confluence is created when the previous broken trendline and the current ascending trendline, meet each other. Furthermore, we have a clear 0.618 Fib retracement - lying right in between the two trendlines creating this "golden pocket", where we could consider opening a long position.
SPX OVernight Top in Place? Lower before Higher; Correction Inc!Chart says all. Been shorting too soon as usual, but the 7-wave Triple combo is a rare and confusing pattern.
Overnight ES futurez tapped the intersection of long-term TL and near-term TL in this wedge; they converged at 3056.
China says they were just kidding and wont get serious with the Great Donald, such a big surprise!
Expect to fill the gaps from past weeks, get support around 295 on SPY and bulls may try again for the 9th wave.
A real Bearish Correction can start anytime; but seasonally Feb-March would be a likely scenario with trade and election worries looming.
On Wednesday 60% of trading was selling, only 40% buying to reach new ATH; RUT and DJT diverged, Transports just got killed; these are leading indicators.
Broader market is not in step with the indexes, which advance on progressively smaller volume and fewer issues with each successive bull wave.
VIX is sub-13 again and in a compressing wedge, expect a big pop in volatility very soon! Play the VIX with UVXY calls if you dare!
This is an idea and does not in any way constitute investment advice- trade at your own risk! GLTA!
Bitcoin - Acting erratically no need to jump inLooking at my chart for it to be a safe way to jump into my reliable alts, BTC needs to bottom out at those points of confluence I've laid out. It has touched down perfectly but that does not mean it has settled in, in that area. I'd avoid jumping into BTC directly since I've had better luck making profits with other coins such as LTC and ETH. In order to jump in my buy order have to hit, I have buy orders in LTC at $68.00 all the way down to $62.00. BNB I'll start at $25.00 all the way to $22.00. If BTC moves up and does not touch down I'm ok with that and I will just catch it on the 61.8 pull back on a local timeframe (30min - 45min.) The point is; I'm not going after the price, rather let's let the trade and price come to us. We'll end up with more money taking mid-size bites all year long rather than getting greedy and trying to get rich in one trade. Crypto will go up high and then very low for eternity, there will always be another incredible opportunity in the next few weeks. Hang tight, set your buy orders low and let the market come to you, if you miss it try it again on the next drop. To be very clear we are waiting for BTC to shake hands with the 100MA (100 day moving average) on the 1D (1 Day Timeframe.)
