Exchange-Traded Funds Rise, US Equities Fall After Midday Trading
Broad Market Indicators
Broad-market exchange-traded funds, including IWM and IVV, were trading higher. Actively-traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was down 0.1%.
US benchmark stock indexes fell after midday on Monday from records last week, and gold and silver jumped as investors braced for a data-packed week and outlooks from Fed officials.
Energy
iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) each slid 0.9%.
Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was up 0.2%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) was down nearly 1% while iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) was up 0.5%.
SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) gained 0.5% while iShares PHLX Semiconductor (SOXX) increased 1.5%.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) rose 0.3%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X shares (FAS) was up 1% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was down 1%.
Commodities
Crude was down 1.3%; United States Oil Fund (USO) fell 1.1%. Natural gas was up 7% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) increased 6.8%.
Gold was up 1.4% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 1.7%. Silver was up 2.7% and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) grew 2.8%.
Consumer
Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was fractionally up; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.
Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) fell 1.1%; retail funds VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were mixed, with the latter trading higher.
Health Care
Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) fell 0.1% and other funds iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. Biotech ETF iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was down 0.7%.
Industrial
Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) gained 0.4% while other industrial funds iShares U.S. Industrials (IYJ), and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) were higher.
